Sharon Stone HELPER OF THE MONTH

Congratulations to Sharon Stone – Our Helper of the Month for October!

October 27, 2021

Americans Helping Americans® is honored to award Sharon Stone as our Helper of the Month for October. Congratulations, Sharon!

Sharon created the Free Book Bus; a mobile effort to bring books at no cost to children and young adults throughout Charlottesville City, Albemarle County, and neighboring localities in Virginia. Much like our own Lunch Box Bus, Sharon drives the bus to low-income areas in which access to public libraries are slim.

The idea for the bus started as a way to encourage reading among underserved children, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Sharon invested her own money into buying the short school bus and thrifting for children’s books in 2018. Since then, the Free Book Bus has passed out over 20,000 books.

Sharon says, “It feels wonderful to be doing this — I tell people I feel a little bit like I drive an ice cream truck.”

Americans Helping Americans® is so inspired by Sharon’s idea that we will be providing her with a donation to keep the wheels of her bus rolling.

Thank you, Sharon, for all your hard work in encouraging kids in your community to read!
