Life can take unexpected turns, but many in Appalachia lack the resources to prepare for surprises. Last year, AHA provided nearly $7,000 in emergency utilities funds to assist families in need with gas, electric and water bills in Kentucky, thereby preventing close to 100 families from suffering the freezing temperatures and dangerous elements of a harsh Appalachian winter.
