Americans Helping Americans® provides emergency utilities funds to assist families in need with gas, electric and water bills in Appalachia, thereby preventing families from suffering the freezing temperatures and dangerous elements of a harsh Appalachian winter.
In fiscal year 2011, Americans Helping Americans® provided emergency assistance to 844 families ineligible for state and federal assistance working in partnership with Caring Hands Ministry, Cleveland, Georgia, Cumberland Mountain, Beattyville, Kentucky, Christian Help of Mingo County, Kermit, West Virginia, and United Ministries, Greenville, South Carolina, Due to the rising cost of fuel many families face difficult decisions to heat their home or face a bitter winter unprotected.
