The mother and daughter team of Sew Cool Sewing sell their one of a kind hand sewn creations and donate 100% of their proceeds to our important Appalachian Programs!
"My mom and dad grew up in Cumberland and Benham Kentucky respectively” said Anne, an Americans Helping Americans® supporter from Benbrook, Texas. “Every summer, we went there to see my grandparents. I saw the crushing poverty some people lived in, and they had no access to resources either due to isolation or ignorance. Even as a child, it broke my heart to see other children hungry and living in squalor. It seemed they had been forgotten by everyone. If her church was having a food drive while we were there, I helped my grandmother deliver food to some of the families who lived “back in the holler”. Each summer I would come back for a visit, and waited for “some day” when I could do something besides deliver food.”
(continued) This past summer, Anne and her 13 year old daughter from Benbrook, Texas saw an opportunity to use their talents to aid a region of the country that held so much meaning for their family. Sew Cool Sewing, an online store, sells handy things like doll pillows, small pillows, pin cushions, potholders and hot pads and all proceeds go to help Appalachian families through Americans Helping Americans® programs, that’s 100%!
Anne’s teenage daughter began sell handmade items through the Sew Cool Sewing website in late 2008 but needed her mother’s assistance to maintain the website and keep track of inventory. Ann agreed to assist but required that all profits go to aid an Appalachian charity. “And there was AHA” said Anne. “Discovering that your programs serve Kentucky was a bonus. Then finding out you all have a resource that helps folks in Cumberland and Benham was more than I ever could have imagined”.
