Our Safe Places program helps parents and children fleeing domestic violence
Did you know that one of out of every four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime? (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence).
When families come to Safe Places, a program of Americans Helping Americans®, they are fleeing abuse. They shove clothes into a suitcase; they take small toys for their children, a Bible or a Koran and the hope that with some help they can provide a safe and loving place for their children to live – a place free from violence.
Safe Places is a 24 month transitional housing program, providing housing and support services to women and children in Fairfax County, Virginia. We also offer financial counseling, support groups, case management, education and employment services, referrals for local resources and more throughout their two year stay.
With your help, Safe Places can provide support for mothers to:
- attend ESL classes
- obtain a certificate as a medical or dental assistant
- enroll in job training courses
- obtain a used computer
- purchase books needed for classes
