A home with more people than rooms and no indoor plumbing is classified as substandard. In some areas of Appalachia, nearly 17% of the homes meet these qualifications. That is why AHA supports local organizations in home repairs. In the past year, we have funded over $94,000 in extensive home repairs, including roof and floor repair and insulation and handicapped ramp installation in Appalachian communities in Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee.
