For more than 11 years the Americans Helping Americans® warehouse in Cumberland, Kentucky has been a beacon of light serving the needs of families in Bell, Clay, Harlan, Letcher, Leslie and Perry counties. From its humble beginnings as a food pantry, the warehouse has grown into a multifaceted support network where families come to get shoes, coats, school supplies, personal hygiene items, diapers and more. They not only receive basic needs but also support, kind words and fellowship from volunteers who oftentimes drive over one hundred miles from the warehouse into their communities delivering goods and services to those who are unable to reach the building.
Our goal is to raise $6,000 by August 31, 2009. The $6,000 will help us to keep this important structure open another year.
Please remember that every penny counts – your past support has fueled services to the poor for over twenty years. Americans Helping Americans® seeks the aid of our supporters now, more than ever, please help us today.
“Many needs are being met by having the warehouse. Food boxes are prepared there, pick-ups for delivery originate there. People receive encouragement and kind words from volunteers when their situation seems hopeless. It would be tragic to see such a valuable county-wide service discontinue” – Rita (food program participant)
“This program means a lot to my family. We can’t afford to buy food so without this program, we would be hungry”. Geraldine (food program participant)
